International Women's Day: female farmers' project

Sol Beatriz - Coffee Farmer

Who runs the world?

Female coffee farmers. Yup, we said it. (Well, at least, that’s how we see it.)

Did you know that women lead 20-30% of the world’s coffee farms? Pretty amazing, right? At happy®, we source most of our coffee from small, family-owned farms with some seriously powerhouse women at the helm. But here’s the thing—these incredible women often don’t get the recognition or support they deserve. They’re juggling family, business, and everything in between. And in many cultures, it’s still seen as a man’s role to represent the business.

So, this International Women’s Day, we’re doing something to level the playing field/coffee farm. We’re launching a new initiative to uplift the women who are the backbone of happy®. We’re funding a dedicated training and support group for 20 of our superstar female growers in Colombia—a place where 75% of the fieldwork and 70% of the drying and sorting is done by women. (And, by the way, all of our products include beans grown in Colombia!)

Through hands-on workshops, these women will build leadership skills and receive practical tools—things like record-keeping and occupational safety—that will help them thrive on and off the farm. Plus, we’re expanding our mental health support to include sessions with a psychologist. We’re tracking everything from attendance to skill-building to emerging leadership potential. And, later this month, the happy® team is headed to Colombia to see all of this in action. Stay tuned for more on the amazing women making it happen!

At happy®, we believe when women lead, entire communities thrive. Here’s to a world where female coffee farmers get the recognition, resources, and respect they absolutely deserve. ☕💪 #HappyWomenLead
